The Dreamer's Issue
For Journey Magazine’s 40th Anniversary, I led the production of The Dreamer’s Issue as Editor-in-Chief, a project deeply rooted in my own journey as a creative navigating the expectations placed upon me. Inspired by my experiences balancing artistic ambition with family legacy, this issue became a testament to the power of dreams and the resilience of storytellers.
Featuring 12 articles crafted by a talented team of staff writers, including two that I personally wrote, this edition was designed to celebrate visionaries past and present. I opened the issue with my Editor’s Letter, reflecting on the significance of chasing dreams and honoring my family's four-generation legacy on the Highest of Seven Hills. To close, I paid tribute to the trailblazing editors who came before me in Through the Eyes of a Dreamer, recognizing the foundation they built and the excellence they inspired.
The History of Black Hair (Wakati Issue)
This project originated from an idea developed by my managing editor, Brandi Roman, and India Gay, who interned with Wakati, during their public relations class. With Wakati Haircare having its roots on FAMU’s campus, this collaboration was a powerful testament to the importance of supporting Black-owned businesses and fostering connections between student creatives and industry leaders.
